David Dimmock was born at St Peter's & christened March 30th, 1817 at St Peter’s, St Albans, Hertfordshire, the son of Sarah Welch & Thomas Dimmock.
Thomas Dimmock had married Sarah Welch on November 7th, 1796 at St Peter’s, St Albans, Hertfordshire. In addition to David it is known that Thomas & Sarah had at least 2 more children – William christened November 11th, 1798 & George christened March 28th, 1813, both at St Peter’s, St Albans.
David married Mary Halsey on September 23rd, 1837 at St Peter’s, St Albans, Herts. David gave his abode as Oak Farm & he was a labourer like his father Thomas. Mary, who was a minor, gave her abode as The Camp & her father was William Halsey, also a labourer. Witnesses at the wedding were William Woolmer & Elizabeth Little. Mary was christened August 31st, 1817 at Sandridge, Hertford, the daughter of Fanny Dickens & William Halsey.
In 1841 David & Mary were living in Sandridge, Herts where David was an agricultural labourer. They had 2 children – Mary (3) & George (1).
Mary died aged 28 in 1845 & was buried on November 11th, 1845 at St Leonard’s, Sandridge, Herts. There is a BMD record of a baby girl Dimmock with mother’s surname given as Halsey registered in Oct-December 1845 which suggests that Mary died soon after giving birth. The baby sadly also died.

David married Mary Adams in Jan-March 1848 the marriage being registered at St Albans, Herts. Mary was christened February 22nd 1824 at Sandridge, the daughter of Susanna Halsey & William Adams. Mary's mother Susanna was the sister of William Halsey (father of David's first wife) & therefore Mary Adams was Mary Halsey's cousin.
In 1851 David & Mary were living at Sandridge & David was described as a labourer. Sons George, Alfred & William from David’s first marriage were still at home. David & Mary’s first child, Ann, had sadly died in infancy but they now had 1 year old daughter Emma. Also with them was Mary’s daughter, Susanna Adams, aged 5.
By 1861 the family were living at Adelaide St, St Peter, St Albans, Herts & David was now a timber carter & Mary was working as a straw plaiter. In addition to Emma, David & Mary now had 5 more children – Charles (10), David (8), Lizzy (6), Fanny (4) & John (16 months). Susanna Adams was still living with them & was a straw hat sewer. Sons George & Alfred had left home & Alfred was living at the Public House, Frog Lane, Islington, Middlesex & working as a servant.
In 1871 David & Mary were living at Lattimore Rd, Tyttenhanger, St Albans & David was now a jobbing labourer. Children at home were Charles, a journeyman blacksmith, David, Emma & Fanny all silk throwsters, John, a scholar & Martha (8).
David & Mary were still living at Lattimore Rd in 1881 & David was described as a general labourer. Only Lizzie, a laundress, & Martha, a hat woman (not straw) were still at home. Son John was living at Barkworth Rd, Camberwell, London & was working as a billiard marker.
By 1891 David & Mary were living at London Rd, St Peter, St Albans where David was a road labourer at the age of 74. Daughter Lizzie was still living at home & working as a laundress.
David & Mary were still living at 142 London Rd in 1901 & David had now retired. There were no children at home.
David died on July 7th, 1902, aged 85, at 142 London Rd, St Albans, Herts.
In 1911 widowed Mary (87) was still living at 142 London Rd with her unmarried daughter Emma, aged 60. It was noted on the census that Mary had had 10 children, 7 of whom were still alive.
Mary lived to the age of 95 years, & died in July-September 1918, her death being registered at St Albans.
