Arthur William Blakebrough Fry [f.]

Arthur William Blakebrough Fry was the first child of William Fry & Esther Blakebrough born December 28th, 1874 at Battle, Sussex.

In 1881 Arthur, his parents & 1 sister & 3 brothers were living at 10 Pemberton Rd, Ashford, Kent where his father was a mill grinder.

The family were living at Mill House, Smarden, Ashford in 1891 & Arthur was described as a houseboy.

Arthur was living with his recently widowed mother Esther at Bexhill, Sussex in 1901. He was now a carpenter. His sister Annie & brothers Alfred & Herbert were still at home.

Arthur married Lizzie Minnie Pitchess in July-September 1903 at Battle, Sussex. Lizzie was born in April-June 1879 at St Pancras, London, the daughter of Charlotte Drury & George Pitchess, a railway porter.

Arthur & Lizzie are recorded as sailing on ‘The Lake Manitoba’ from Liverpool to Montreal, Canada with their final destination being Toronto in September 1904.  Their baby son William was with them.

By 1911 Arthur, Lizzie & their 3 children – William, Lily & Lucy,  were recorded as living in Prince Edward, Ontario.

Arthur is known to have enlisted in the 156th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 13th, 1916. His address was given as Gananoque, Ontario, Canada & his next of kin was Mrs Lizzie Fry. At the time of enlisting his trade was a cabinet maker. Arthur was 5ft 4 inches tall with fair hair & blue eyes.

In 1921 the family were living in Leeds, Ontario.

Arthur, aged 73, died on October 22nd, 1948 in Ontario.

Lizzie died on March 10th, 1966, aged 86, in Gananoque, Ontario.

f.  Lily Kathleen Rosa Maud Fry born December 16th, 1907 in Islington, London; died January 14th, 1996 in Belleville, Ontario
f.  Lucy Minnie Fry born April 3rd, 1909 in Picton, Prince Edward, Ontario; died July 18th, 1997 in Gananoque, Ontario
