Grace Fry was the eighth child of Frederick Fry & Mary Anne Waters born August 30th, 1891 in Maidstone, Kent.
By 1901 the family were living at 13 Cage Lane, Chatham, Kent.
In 1911 Grace was still living at home, now 26 Bush St, Chatham, the only daughter still at home. Grace appears to be housekeeper for her widowed father & her 3 brothers. Also living with them were 2 of Grace’s nieces, Alice & Daisy Cooper (children of Grace’s sister Daisy May). Later that year Grace was to be a witness at the wedding of her brother Victor to Maria Parry.
In 1913 Grace emigrated to Canada. She sailed on the Ionian from London on June 26th, 1913 & arrived in Quebec in July of that year. With her was her niece Daisy Cooper (listed as Daisy Fry), & her sister-in-law Rose Fry, wife of Grace’s brother Frederick. Rose’s 4 month old baby daughter, Grace Rose, was with her. It was noted on the ship’s manifest that they were going to stay in Vancouver with their brother who was a farmer.
Grace married Charles Alexander Milton on June 2nd, 1917 in Vancouver, Canada. One of the witnesses at the wedding was Daisy Hyams (nee Cooper now married to Harry Hyams). Charles was born November 24th, 1881 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Margaret McCombie & Charles Milton.
By 1930 Grace & Charles were living in Los Angeles, California. They had 3 children at home at this time, namely Alice (12), Margaret (10) & Charley (7), all born in Washington.
In 1940 Grace & Charles were living at 324 E. 79th St, Los Angeles. Charles was a salesman for a bakery & living at home were sons Charles & Jackie (John, 9). Living a couple of doors away was Daisy Hyams who was now married to Phillip Rosensweig & with them was Daisy’s son from her first marriage, Jack Hyams, aged 17 & born in Washington.
The 1942 enlistment papers for WW2 for Charles shows he & Grace living at 324 E. 79th St, Los Angeles. Charles worked for the Golden Krust Bakery Co.
Grace died September 26th, 1960 & was buried at the Rosehill Memorial park, Whittier, Los Angeles.
Charles died September 10th, 1970 & was buried alongside his wife.
