In 1851 William was living with his parents & younger sister at Moor House, Lingfield, Surrey.

At the time of the 1861 census William was visiting his grandparents, Elizabeth & William Fry, at Goodwins Farm, East Grinstead.

By 1871 William had become a trooper at the Hyde Park Barracks, Knightsbridge. This barracks is home to members of the Household Cavalry. Although listed as unmarried at the time of the census, William had in fact married Sarah Ann Thick on May 9th, 1870, at Christ Church, St Pancras, London. At the time of the wedding they both gave their address as 19 Red Hill St & William’s profession was a soldier. Witnesses at the wedding were Eliza Andrews & George Temple. Sarah Ann was born Jan-March 1843 at Holton, Somerset, the daughter of Ann & Thomas Thick, a farmer.

In 1881 Sarah Ann was living at the Cavalry Barracks, New Windsor, Berkshire with sons William (10) & John (9). It appears that William had moved to New Windsor in the early 70’s since their son John was born at Windsor. William is described as a soldier at this time.

By 1891 William had left the army & was now a church verger. He & Sarah Ann were living at Allington St, St George Hanover Square, London. Sons William, now an assistant railway carman, & John, a printer’s machine ruler, were living at home.

In 1901 William was now a park keeper at Regents Park, St Pancras, London. He & Sarah were now living at 91 William St, Regents Park & both the sons had left home. William & Sarah had a 31 year old boarder, Edwin Gower, who was an Imperial Yeoman. Son John had married Ada Burrows, a dress maker, in 1900 & in 1901 he was working as a stationer’s assistant & they lived in Lambeth.

William died on June 21st, 1908, aged 59, in the Pancras Workhouse & was buried by friends.  Administration of William’s will was granted to his widow Sarah Ann July 7th, 1908 & his effects were £401.18s.11d.

Widowed Sarah was living on her own at 91 William Street, Pancras in 1911.
