Annie Jane Grove [g.8.2]

Annie Jane Grove was the first child of William Grove & Emma Elizabeth Grove born  at 2 South Grove, Mile End Old Town & christened November 11th, 1860 at  Holy Trinity, Mile End.

In 1871 Annie Jane was living at the District Asylum for the Deaf & Dumb, Kent Road, St George the Martyr, Southwark. She & her sister Emma were described as scholars.

In 1881 Annie was at home with her parents & younger sister Emma at Albion St, Mile End Old Town, where she was a waistcoat maker. It was noted in the census that she was deaf & dumb, as was her sister.

On August 2nd, 1886 Annie married Frederick Charles Worcester, a mathematical instrument maker, at St Luke’s, Mile End.  Frederick was christened July 6th, 1859 at St John of Jerusalem, Hackney, the son of Louisa Forrester & Frederick Charles Worcester, a commercial traveller.  Witnesses at the wedding were Emma Sarah Grove, Annie’s sister, & William Grove.  Annie's husband Frederick was also deaf & dumb from birth.

At the time of the census in 1891 Annie was visiting her parents & sister Emma at Eric St, Mile End with her son William Frederick Worcester (3) who was also deaf & dumb. Annie & her son were also registered by her husband at their home at Fabor Rd, Hammersmith where Frederick was at the time of the census! Frederick was described as an electrician, perforator & transmitter.

In 1901 Annie & Frederick were living at 34 Wingfield Rd, West Ham with son William. Frederick was still an electrical engineer.

Annie & Frederick had moved to 70 Newport Rd, Leyton, West Ham, Essex by 1911.  Frederick was now described as a ‘switch & electrical inst’.   Son William was still at home.

Frederick, aged 70, died Oct-December 1929 in West Ham, Essex.
Annie, aged 78,  died in April-June 1939 in West Ham, Essex.
