Samuel Horton was the sixth child of Samuel Horton & Ann Maria Oakley born November 7th, 1885 & christened December 182nd, 1885 at Lower Gornall, Sedgley, Staffs.
Samuel was living at home in 1891, at 15 Barr St, Lower Gornall with his 4 brothers & 2 sisters.
In 1901 Samuel was still at home, now 33 Barr St, with his parents & 5 brothers & a sister. He was now working as a colliery labourer above ground.
Samuel was still living at home with his parents, 2 brothers & a sister in 1911, now 33 Oak Lane, Kingswinford. He was now a sand hole labourer at the sand pit.
Samuel married Eliza Jane Hale in Dudley in July-September 1916. Eliza was born December 25th, 1888 & christened January 16th, 1889 in Lower Gornal, the daughter of Emily & Isaac Hale, a miner. At the time of the 1911 census Eliza was living at home, 2 Gatacre St, Lower Gornal & working in the brickyard.
The 1939 register shows Samuel & Eliza living at 16 Victoria St, Brierley Hill, Staffs. Samuel was a sand mine worker. With them was son Joseph H, a bar drawer at the steel mill, daughters Marian & Gladys both in domestic service & 2 younger children.
In 1945 daughter Marian married Charles Frederick Westwood at Rowley Regis.
Eliza Jane of 15 Victoria St, Wall Heath, Staffs, died November 15th, 1955. Administration of her estate was granted to husband Samuel Horton, quarryman & her effects were £126.19s.11d.
Samuel, aged 81, died August 13th, 1967 at 41 Victoria St, Wall Heath, Brierley Hill. His effects were £7,262.
