Eliza Jane Horton was the sixth child of William Horton & Elizabeth Hale christened July 15th, 1868 at Lower Gornall, Sedgley, Staffs.
In 1871 Eliza, her parents & brothers & sisters were living at 4 Prices Rd, Lower Gornall, Staffs.
By 1881 the family had moved to Graveyard, Lower Gornall, Sedgley & Eliza was working as a nail maker at the age of 13.
In 1888 Eliza gave birth to a son who was christened John Horton on May 16th, 1888 at Lower Gornall.

Eliza married James Henry Guest on October 14th, 1889 at St Mark’s, Pensnett, Staffs. James was born 1864 at Sedgley, the son of Sarah & John Guest, a coal miner. In 1881 James was living in Lower Gornall with his parents & was working as a stone miner.
In 1891 James & Eliza (Lizzie in census) were living at 19 Cottage, Coopers Bank Rd, Lower Gornall & James was now described as a coal miner. Eliza’s son John (3) was living with them (listed as John Guest) & they now had a daughter Nellie (1). Also with them at the time of the census was James’ widowed mother Sarah Guest.
There is a death for James Henry Guest in Jan-March 1898 registered at Dudley.

Eliza married again in July-September 1898 at Stourbridge Register Office, Staffs. Her second husband was James George Hickman.
James & Eliza had a son, George Hickman, on December 26th, 1898 who was christened January 18th, 1899 at Kingswinford, Staffs. It appears that son George was brought up by Eliza’s brother, Enoch Horton, as Frank George Horton. (See Enoch Horton h.1.4.3.8)
James, Eliza & Eliza's son John were not found in the 1901 census but daughter Nellie (recorded as Millie) was with her grandparents, Elizabeth & William Horton at 32 Dawley Brook, Kingswinford, Staffs at the time of the census.
