Elizabeth Hannah Stainsby was the fifth child of William Stainsby & Adah Stephenson born at 1 Price St, York on august 18th, 1859 & christened September 11th, 1859 at Saint Mary Bishophill Junior, York.
Elizabeth was living at 59 Price St, York in 1871 with her widowed father, brothers & grandmother Elizabeth Stainsby (92).
In 1881 Elizabeth was visiting her sister Zillah, now married to Edwin Smithyes, at 47 Victoria St, York & their 6 year old son George. Elizabeth was a dressmaker.
Elizabeth married Frank John Thomas on August 8th, 1882 at York. Frank was the son of Martha & William Thomas born May 2nd, 1854 & christened June 4th, 1854 at St Michael-le-Belfry, York. Elizabeth & Frank had 2 children – Ada & Ernest.
Sadly Elizabeth died in Jan-March 1889, aged 29, the death being registered at York.

Widowed Frank married Mary Ormiston on May 19th, 1890 at York. Mary was born c1853 in York, the daughter of Catharine & Robert Ormiston.
In 1891 Frank, a hairdresser, & Mary were living at 21 Nunnery Lane, Micklegate, York with the 2 children from Frank’s previous marriage. Living with them was Mary’s mother Catharine Ormiston, aged 81.
Frank & Mary were still living at Nunnery Lane in 1901 & Frank was now a general dealer working from home. Ada (17) was still at home & working as a card box maker, & Ernest (15) was an errand boy. It appears that Frank & Mary did not have any children of their own.
In 1911 Frank & Mary were living at 32 Trinity Lane, York & Frank was described as a provision dealer working from home. Frank’s daughter Ada was still living with them & working as a cardboard box maker for Messr. Rowntree, the chocolate manufacturers. Son Frank had become a travelling salesman in leather goods & at the time of the 1911 census he was boarding at 79 St Michael’s Hill, Bristol with the King family.
Mary died, aged 64, in 1917 in York.
Frank married for the third time in 1931 in York. His new wife was Rachel Ann Bottoms.
The 1939 register shows Frank & Rachel living at Skeldergate, York & Frank was now a retired general dealer.
Frank died August 12th, 1941 at Skeldergate, York. Probate was granted on August 26th, 1941 to widow Rachel Ann & his effects were £388.3s.9d.
