Alfred Speed was the sixth child of John Speed & Jane Hall born January 21st, 1881 in Durham.
Alfred, his 5 brothers & parents were living at Durham Row, Framwellgate Moor, Co Durham in 1891. His father was a joiner.
Alfred was still living at home at the same address in 1901 & he was now working as a cabinet maker, following his father’s profession.
Alfred married Elizabeth Richardson on March 28th, 1906 at St Cuthbert’s, Durham. Elizabeth was born November 9th, 1885 in Framwellgate Moor, Durham, the daughter of Henry Richardson, a coal miner.
In 1911 Alfred & Elizabeth were living at Front St, Framwellgate Moor & Alfred was a joiner & cabinet maker. They had 2 children – John (4) & Doris aged one and a half.
In 1927 Alfred was listed as a member of the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers in Durham, his trade being carpenters & joiners.
Son John, a colliery filler, married Rose Robinson (1912-1983) in 1933 & in 1939 they were living in Easington with 1 year old daughter Elizabeth.
Daughter Doris married Richard R Rutter, a coal miner, in Jan-March 1936 & in 1939 they were living at Sacriston, Co Durham with their 1 year old son Alan.
At the time of the 1939 register Alfred, a joiner, & Elizabeth were living at 14 Lund Avenue, Framwellgate Moor.
Alfred, aged 74, died at Lund Avenue, Framwellgate Moor & was buried October 10th, 1955 at St Cuthbert’s, Durham.
Elizabeth died in 1961 at 1 Ashley Ave, Framwellgate Moor & was buried on October 10th at St Cuthbert’s, Durham.
