Isabella Speed was the third child of James Hunter Speed & Mary Elliott born May4th, 1872 at Jarrow & christened July 2nd 1876 at Holy Trinity, Pelton.
In 1881 Isabella & her parents were living at #3 Row, Ouston, Co Durham where her father was a coal miner. Isabella was one of 6 children.
The family had moved to Team Colliery, Lamesley by 1891 & Isabella was described as a domestic servant.
Isabella married Edwin Thomas in April-June 1897 at Chester-le-Street. Edwin was born April-June 1870 at Longbenton, Northumberland, the son of Julia Reed & John Thomas, a miner.
In 1901 Isabella & husband Edwin, a coal miner, were living with her parents at Whitefield Pit Cottages, Penshaw, Co Durham. They had a 1 year old son, James H.
Isabella & Edwin had moved to 12 Front Row, New Penshaw by 1911 & Edwin was described as a coal miner, Stoneman. Son James Hunter & a daughter Mary were both scholars. It was noted on the census that Isabella had had 6 children, only 2 of whom were still alive.
Edwin, aged 57, died in April-June 1927 at Houghton-le-Spring. Later that year son James married Caroline Agnes Lawson in 1927 & at the time of the 1939 register they were living at 4 New Rainton St, Penshaw, Co Durham with their daughter June.
The 1939 register shows widowed Isabella living at 35 Victoria Terrace, Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham. With her was daughter Mary.
Daughter Mary married Robert Melvin in 1940.
Isabella, aged 68, died in April-June 1941 in Durham North.
