Clara Stone was the fourteenth child of John Stone & Mary Haywood born June 5th, 1882 at Salford, Lancs.
Clara was still living at home in 1891, now 29 Alderson St, Pendleton where her father was a fried fish dealer. She had 5 sisters & 1 brother still at home.
In 1901 Clara & her sister Alice were living at 4 Alpha St, Pendleton with their sister Ada & husband Harry Wardley, an iron turner. Clara was working as a polish cotton winder & her sister Alice also worked at the cotton mill as a cotton weaver.
Clara married Charles Henry Lord in April-June 1909 at Salford, Lancs. Charles was born January 10th, 1883 at Pendleton, Lancs, son of Ann & Charles Henry Lord, a Cooperative Stores baker.
In 1911 Clara & Charles were living at 40 Keswick Grove, Pendleton & Charles was a plumber for a joiner & building contractor.
The 1939 register shows Charles & Clara living at 11 Kingsway, Swinton & Pendlebury, Lancs. Charles was a retired confectioner cake maker and an ARP warden. With them was daughter Dorothy & her husband Lewis Acton, an insurance agent, who had married in 1936.
Charles was to administer the estates of Clara’s sisters Alice & Elizabeth Hannah upon their deaths in 1943 & 1948 respectively.
Clara died on July 22nd, 1958 at 11 Kingsway, Pendlebury. Probate was granted on September 24th, 1958 to widower Charles of no occupation. Her effects were £3,277.5s.9d.
Charles’ body was found on November 22nd, 1962 having last been seen alive on November 21st, 1962. His address had been 46 Kingsway, Manchester Rd, Swinton. Probate was granted to Dorothy Acton, married woman, on January 9th, 1963 & his effects were £15,603.11s.
