William Henry Stone was the second child of James Stone & Sarah Langstone born January 17th, 1862 at Wolverley, Kidderminster, Worcs.
In 1871 the family were living at Hilltop, West Bromwich, Staffs & William had 3 brothers.
In 1881 William was an ordinary seaman on board Her Majesty’s Ship ‘Defence’. On the night of the census (April 3rd) the position of the ship was Rock Ferry, Higher Bebington, Cheshire.
William emigrated to the USA & there is a record of his marriage on November 14th, 1889 at The Cathedral, Los Angeles, California. His bride was Delia O’Neal, aged 23. Both were residents of Los Angeles. Delia was born January 1st, 1865 in Ireland, daughter of James Neal.
The 1900 US census shows William & Delia living in Precinct 72, Los Angeles Ward 5, Los Angeles & they had 3 children by this time – twin boys James A & Harry N born September 1890 in California & daughter Ruth Adelaide born August 1895 in Utah.
The 1910 US census shows William & Delia living in Assembly District 70, Los Angeles with their twin sons, James & Harry, & daughter Ruth. William was an electrical engineer.
By 1920 William & Delia living in Glendale, Los Angeles with their 25 year old daughter Ruth. The census shows that William emigrated to the USA in 1884 & Delia was born in Ireland of Irish parents & emigrated in 1882. Son Harry had left home & married by 1920. He & his wife, Clara M, were living in South Thomas St, Los Angeles & Harry was a partner working as a commercial artist. Son James had also married by 1920, his wife being Margaret Jane Hargraves. The 1920 US census shows him living in North Kenmore St, Los Angeles with Margaret, son James A, aged 3 and a half, Margaret’s father, James Hargraves & Margaret’s sister, Nell M Hargraves. James was working as a salesman at a paint store. James was drafted in both WW1 & WW2. By 1940 James was divorced & listed in the census as lodging at the Mother Cabrini Day Home, Marymount Convent, Los Angeles. He was a painter.
The 1930 US census shows Delia as head of the household living in Glendora, Los Angeles with her married daughter (Ruth) Adelaide Bonar & a 3 year old granddaughter (listed as niece!) Marjorie Bonar (born in Kensington, London, England, in 1926). Ruth Adelaide had married Robert Floyd Bonar on August 22nd, 1921 in Los Angeles. Their marriage licence shows that Ruth was a teacher & Robert was a commercial artist.
Delia died January 28th, 1931 at S. Elwood Ave, Glendora.
