Josiah Wall was the fourth child of Josiah Wall & Sarah Ann L(e)ager born January 28th, 1884 at Wednesbury.
The family had moved to 33 Potters Lane, Wednesbury by 1891 & Josiah was living at home with his parents & 2 brothers & 1 sister.
In 1901 Josiah was still living at home at Potters Lane with his widowed father & sister Amy, his 2 brothers having emigrated to the US. Josiah was working as a brass filer.
In 1906 Josiah decided to follow his brothers & emigrate to the USA along with his sister Amy. They were accompanied by brother Ernest & his wife Grace who were already US citizens and sailed to Boston, Massachusetts. They sailed to Boston, Massachusetts but Josiah eventually settled in Illinois.
In 1910 Josiah was living in Chicago, Illinois as a roomer with the Turner family. He was working as a carpenter in a car shop.
On November 9th, 1911 Josiah married Harriett Ellen Little, known as Ella, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Ella was born c1886 in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Ella & Thomas Little.
Josiah was naturalized in 1914 in Chicago, one of the witnesses being C.R Little.
Josiah’s WW1 registration card of 1918 show him living with Ella at 1135 Watt Avenue, Chicago & working as a car builder for the Pulman Car Line.
The 1920 US census shows Josiah & Ella living in Chicago with 3 children – Lysle aged 7, Mildred aged 3 & Caroline aged 1. Josiah was working as a cabinet maker in a car shop.
The family were still living in Chicago in 1930 & all 3 daughters were still at home. Josiah was now a machinist in a paint factory.
Daughter Mildred married Richard Wade Webster Jr II in 1938 in Chicago.
The 1940 census shows Josiah & Ella still living in Chicago & Josiah was now a lacquer maker in a paint factory. Daughter Lysle was now working as an office worker in a magazine company & Carolyn was a switchboard operator at a china factory.
Josiah’s WW2 registrations card of 1942 shows his address as 11335 St Lawrence Ave, Chicago & his employer was Sherwin Williams Co, paint producers.
Daughter Carolyn married Mr Strandberg & at the time of her death she was widowed and a book keeper.
Josiah died on June 1st, 1951, in Winslow, Navajo, Arizona, the cause of death being coronary infarction. The informant of his death was wife Ella & she gave his occupation as a clerk in the grocery business. He was buried at Desert View Cemetery, Winslow, Navajo, Arizona.
Ella died in 1970 & was also buried at Desert View Cemetery, Winslow, Navajo, Arizona.
