Samuel Wall was the seventh child of William Wall & Mary Ball born September 23rd, 1882 at Lea Brook Rd, Tipton, & christened October 10th, 1882 at Wednesbury, Staffs.
Samuel’s father William died some time before the next census in 1891. At this time Samuel was still living at home at Lea Brook Rd with 2 sisters & 2 brothers & his mother, who had remarried after the death of Samuel’s father. His step-father, Joseph Groves, was a barge boatman.
Samuel was still at home in 1901, now 11 St James St, Wednesbury. His mother & older brother & sister were also at home but his step-father was not. Samuel was working as a tube screwer.
Samuel sailed from Liverpool on August 5th, 1905 aboard the Virginian, arriving in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on August 10th, 1905.
The 1911 Canadian census shows Samuel and mother Mary A Groves living in York, Ontario. Mother Mary Ann & sister Elizabeth had followed Samuel to Canada in September 1905. Samuel enlisted in WW1 and gave as his next of kin his mother Mary Ann Groves.
Samuel married Edna Wray Thompson on October 22nd, 1924 in York, Ontario. Edna, known as Wray, was born July 29th, 1896 in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Laura Jane Watts & Horace Wellington Thompson.
Samuel & his wife Edna returned to England on June 30th, 1960 on the SS Carinthia for an estimated 2 month visit. Samuel was noted as retired & he & Edna (both Canadian citizens) gave their address in the UK as 46 Ocker Hill, Tipton.
Samuel died, aged 87, on September 20th, 1970 in Toronto.
Edna died, aged 78, on January 9th, 1975 in Toronto.
