Mary Wall [w.9.3]

Mary Wall was the third child of Joseph Wall & Sarah Timmins born May 15th 1850 at Tividale, Rowley Regis, Staffs.

In 1861 Mary & her parents & family were living at Chapel St, Rowley Regis.

Mary married David Perry on April 18th, 1870 at the Parish Church, West Bromwich, Staffs. David was born May 18th, 1847 at Stourbridge, Worcs, the son of Elizabeth Drewry & James Perry, a puddler in the iron works.

In 1871 Mary & David were living at 20 Trows ? Square, Wednesbury & David was an iron worker. They had a 7 month old daughter Sarah Ann. They were living with Mary’s parents & her brothers & sister.

In 1881 Mary & David were still at Wednesbury, now at 63 Kings St & David was described as a labourer in the steel works. They now had 5 children – Sarah Ann, Mary J (8), Elizabeth (6), David (4) & Sarah (2). Lodging with them were Mary’s brothers George & Edward Wall, both puddlers at the iron works.

The family were still at Wednesbury in 1891, living at 35 Meeting St. where David was a forge labourer. Children at home were David, a labourer, Sarah, Eliza (9), Willie (7), Annie (5) & Rosy (3).

Mary died on February 22nd, 1895 at 35 Meeting St, the cause of death being chronic bronchitis asphyxia. The informant of the death was daughter Sarah Ann.

David was still living at 35 Meeting St in 1901 with daughters Sarah, a bolt turner, Eliza & Rose. William was also still at home & was employed as a general labourer like his father. Daughter Sarah Ann, now married to Thomas Gibbins, & their family were near neighbours.

In 1911 David was boarding with his daughter Mary Jane who had married John Ernest Maycock, a steel smelter, in 1901.  They were living at 120 Holyhead Rd, Wednesbury & David was still a general labourer at the steel works.  Mary Jane & John had 3 daughters – Lilian Sarah (5), Gladys (4) & Annie (2).

Daughter Eliza had married Thomas Rotton, a tube warehouseman, in 1903 & by 1911 they were living with Thomas’s widowed Mother, Lois, at 5 Camp St, Wednesbury with 2 sons William & James.  By 1939 they & their family were living at Churchfields Rd, Wednesbury & Thomas was now a time, export & import clerk. 
Daughter Rose Hannah was working as a domestic servant for William James Jones, a grocer & baker, & family in 1911 at 73 Darlaston Green, Wednesbury.  Rose Hannah never married & was still working as a servant in Blackpool in 1939.

David died on March 2nd, 1925 at Wednesbury.

The 1939 register shows daughter Mary Jane & husband John Maycock still living in Wednesbury & John was a pitman steel smelter.

Son David & wife Ellen (nee Dangerfield m. 1898) & daughter & 2 sons were living at 44 Bell St. Darlaston, Staffs in 1939 & David was a retired steel smelter.
