Ellinor Webster [we.12.8]

Ellinor Webster was the eighth child of William Webster & Elizabeth Winder born October 19th, 1867 & christened December 8th, 1867 at Burnham.

In 1871 she was living with her parents & sisters at Dorney Wood Farm.

At the time of the 1881 census Ellinor (Helena on census) was visiting her sister Kate who was married to Arthur George Barnett & their family. They were living at Hampstead Farm, Eye & Dunsden, Oxon.

In 1891 she was at home with her sister Madeline & parents at Dorney Wood Farm.

Ellinor married William Mills Bayley on September 17th, 1891 at St Peter's Church, Burnham. William was born July 3rd, 1861 at Britwell Farm, Burnham, Bucks, the eldest son of Sarah Mills & William Bayley.

By 1901 Ellinor (known as Nelly) & William were living at ‘St Martins’, Tipton Rd, Slough & William’s occupation was a farmer. They had 3 daughters – Margery (9), Phyllis May (5) & Helen Marion (3).

Ellinor & William were living at Wexham Court, Wexham, Slough in 1911 & William was still a farmer. All 3 daughters were still at home & the family had a general domestic servant.

Daughter Phyllis May married James Webster Deane on January 9th, 1919 at Wexham, Bucks.  James was the son of Harriet Webster [we.12.4] & Louis William Francis Deane therefore she married her cousin. After James had served during WW1 he & Phyllis emigrated to Canada in 1921.

Daughter Helen Marion married Frederic Clifton Deane in 1922.  Frederic was another son of Harriet Webster & Louis William Francis Deane & therefore cousins married again! Frederic died in 1935 & Helen remarried  in 1937, her second husband being George Robert Scutt. In 1939 Helen & George, a sheep farmer, were living at Churn Farm, Wantage, Berks with their son Peter.

In June 1926 Ellinor & William paid a visit to Canada (presumably to visit daughter Phyllis) leaving Liverpool for Montreal on April 16th aboard the ‘Doric’.  Their address in the UK was given as Woodside, Farnham Common, Slough.  It was stated on the ship’s manifest that the country of future permanent residence was Canada, however they returned to England on June 10th, 1926, sailing to Southampton on the Canadian Pacific ship Minnedosa. 

Ellinor & William were still living at Woodside at the time of William’s death on October 11th, 1937.  Probate of William’s will was granted on January 26th, 1938 to his widow Ellinor, Francis Charles Woodbridge, Solicitor & Westminster Bank Ltd.  His effects amounted to £32,307.16.3d. 

The 1939 register shows widowed Ellinor still living at Woodside & with her was daughter Margery.   They had a paid domestic servant, Joan P Ransome & Violet & Charles Harrison, an engineering draughtsman, were also living there.

Daughter Margery never married  & was still living at home at Woodside when she died on November 1st, 1946.  Probate was granted on April 3rd, 1947 to Westminster Bank Ltd & Geoffrey William Bayley, outfitter.  Margery’s effects were £8,651.0s.2d.

Ellinor died on October 15th, 1952 at Withyfield, Green Lane, Farnham Common, Bucks.  Administration of her will was granted on December 20th, 1952 to daughter Helen Marion Scutt (wife of George Robert Scutt).  Ellinor’s effects were £1,772.11s.9d.
