Mary Ann Webster was the second known child of John Webster & Elizabeth Compton Hearne born September 18th, 1804 at Burnham.
In 1851 Mary was visiting John & Emma Guerney in Bradford, Yorks. Her relationship was stated to be aunt, as Emma was the daughter of Mary’s half-brother Charles Webster. John was a wool stapler & both he & his wife had been born in Middx & they had 2 children – Henry W (3) & Frederick J (1).
In 1861 Mary was with her cousin Charles Norton (a 69 year old widower) living at The Firs, Cookham, Maidenhead, Bucks at the time of the census. Charles Norton had married Elizabeth Hickman in 1817 & Elizabeth was born in 1795 the daughter of William Hickman & Elizabeth Webster – Elizabeth being the sister of John Webster, Mary Ann’s father.
By 1871 Mary had moved to Penzance, Cornwall where she was lodging with sisters Elizabeth & Gertrude Williams who were stay makers. Mary’s occupation was described as ‘funded property’!
In 1891 Mary was lodging with Eliza Weary & her son & daughter at 9 Somerset Place, Stoke Demerel, Devonport, Devon.
Mary died on December 23rd, 1891 at 9 Somerset Place, Devonport, Devon. Probate was granted at Exeter on February 9th, 1892 to Thomas Webster, gentleman (Mary’s brother?), John Webster, farmer (Mary’s nephew?) & Robert Edis, gentleman. Her effects were £2,594.12s.8d.
