Sophia Webster was the fourth known child of John Webster & Elizabeth Compton Hearne born May 10th, 1807 & christened May 28th, 1807 at Burnham.
Sophia married Robert Style on March 30th, 1830 at Burnham. They were married by licence & witnesses at the wedding were Sophia’s parents & sister Mary Ann Webster. Robert was born August 23rd & christened September 26th, 1802 at Datchet, Bucks, the son of John & Elizabeth Style.
In 1841 Sophia and Robert were living at Riding Court farm, Datchet, Bucks. Robert was a farmer. They had 4 children, Mary Ann (10), Elizabeth (5), Sophia (3) and Robert W (1). Sadly son Robert died later that year. They had a number of servants.
In 1851 Sophia & Robert were still living at Riding Court farm, and Robert employed 13 labourers & a number of boys on his farm. Mary Ann, Elizabeth & Sophia were at home, & there was also a visitor at that time – Edith Hanwood (9).
By 1861 they were living at Harpsden Farm, Harpsden,Oxon & only Elizabeth was living at home & her occupation was given as governess. Robert was a farm steward. Daughter Sophia was a governess with the Robinson family, farmers in Newtimber, Sussex at this time.
Sophia died in April 1868, aged 60, & was buried at St Margaret’s, Harpsden, S. Oxon.
In 1871 widowed Robert (indexed as Robert Hyte in Ancestry.co.uk) was still a farm steward at Harpsden. Daughter Elizabeth was still living with Robert & Mary Ann & Sophia had also returned home. All 3 were described as governesses. There was a visitor Margaret Brown (38) & also 2 servants.
By 1881 Robert was a retired farmer living at Binfield Heath, Shiplake, Oxon with his daughters Mary (50) & Elizabeth (45) both described as ‘formerly governess’. Daughter Sophia (40) was visiting her uncle Thomas Webster at Clifford House, Eastbourne, Sussex.
Daughter Elizabeth decided to marry in Oct-December 1886 at the age of 50. The marriage was registered at Henley & her husband was John Culley who was born c1836 at Kintbury, Berks.
Robert was still living at Binfield Heath in 1891. He was living with 2 of his daughters - Mary & Sophia, both living on their own means – at Elm Cottage. Elizabeth & husband John, a builder’s labourer, were living at the Lodge, Caversham, Henley, Oxon.
Robert of Binfield Heath died in 1892 aged 89 years & 11 months, & was buried on August 6th, 1892 at St Peter & St Paul’s, Shiplake, Oxfordshire.
In 1901 daughters Mary & Sophia were living at Mount Pleasant, Binfield Heath, Shiplake & both were described as living on their own means. Their sister Elizabeth & husband John Culley, now a bricklayer- scaffolder, were living at Sunnyside, Binfield Heath.
Mary Ann & Sophia were still in Binfield Heath but now living at Elm Cottage in 1911. They were both described as having private means & had a domestic servant to look after them & their 8 roomed house. Sister Elizabeth was now widowed & still living at Sunnyside with 1 domestic servant.
