George Barnett [b.2.9.4.3]

George Barnett was the third child of Arthur George Barnett and Kate Webster, born on July 16th, 1880 at Dunsden, Oxon.

In 1891 George was a pupil at Clarence House, London Rd, Reading as was his brother Arthur Reeve.

When the 1901 census was taken, 20 year old George was living at home with his parents in Caversham and his occupation was given as clerk in an office.

In 1911 George was still living at home with his parents & brother Harry at 33A Prospect St, Caversham & working as a clerk in a biscuit factory.

George married Lily Kemp in April-June 1912 at Reading, Berks.  Lily was born March 8th, 1884 in Reading, the daughter of Thirza & Jesse Kemp, a tinman.

The 1939 register shows George & Lily living at 47 Talfourd Ave, Reading.  George was described as retired manager of Huntley & Palmer biscuit factory.  With them was 21 year old son Maurice L G Barnett, a cinema projectionist. 

At the time of proving his mother's Will in 1941, George was living in Talfourd Avenue, Reading, and his occupation was retired Departmental manager.

Lily, of 47 Talfourd Avenue Reading died on May 31st, 1953 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.  Probate was granted to widowed George, retired manager, & her effects were £4,181.13s.6d.

George, of 3 Holland Rd, Northcourt, Abingdon, Berks, died on April 22nd, 1961 at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.  Probate was granted to son Maurice Langford George Barnett, car factory under foreman.  George’s effects were £2,179.8s.9d.
