Barbara Hall

Barbara Hall was the fifth child of Barbara Wilson & James Hall born January 31st at Kenton & christened February 17th, 1815 at Ellington (non-conformist), Northumberland.

Barbara married Robert Woollett at All Saints, Newcastle on January 30th, 1836.  Witnesses at the wedding were Edward Wilson & Joseph Pearson.  Robert was born August 1st, 1813 at Newton-by-the-Sea & christened September 5th, 1814 at Embleton, the son of Elizabeth Tinmouth & Robert Woollett, a labourer.

By 1841 Barbara & Robert were living at Waterloo Back St, Thornley, Kelloe, Co Durham & Robert was a coal miner.  They had 2 daughters at this time – Mary (3) & Elizabeth (1).

In 1851 Robert, still a coal miner, & Barbara were living in Murton Colliery, Co Durham.  As well as Mary & Elizabeth they now had 2 sons, Charles (8) & William (6) & 2 more daughters, Ann (4) & Sarah (1).

Daughter Elizabeth married George Pigg, a coal miner, in 1859 at Dalton-le-Dale, Co Durham.

The family were still in Murton in 1861, now living at Double Row, East Murton & Robert was described as a coal hewer.  Sons Charles & William were still at home & both working as coal hewers.  Daughters Ann, Sarah & Margaret were all scholars & there was another son Thomas (5).  Boarding with them was William Hall (18),  a coal miner born in Gateshead.

Daughter Ann married Cuthbert Forster, a coal miner, in 1864 at Dalton-le-Dale, Co Durham. They were to have 10 children, only 4 of whom were still alive in 1911.
Daughter Sarah Ann married Thomas Cook, a coal miner, in 1868 at Dalton-le-Dale.  After the death of her first husband in 1890 Sarah Ann married again in 1891, her second husband being Samuel Robert Scothern, a coal miner.

In 1875 daughter Margaret married Joseph Fenwick Reay, a coal miner, at Dalton-le-Dale.  After the death of her first husband Margaret married again in 1887, her second husband being William Bell, a coal miner.

Robert & Barbara had moved to Wood Row, East Murton by 1871 & Robert continued to be a coal miner, as were sons Charles & Thomas who were still at home.  Daughter Margaret was described as a domestic servant.

In Jan-March 1876 son William married Sarah McCree Hunter in Dalton-le-Dale, Co Durham.  Sarah was a widow and was formerly Sarah McCree Pallister born at Wingate.  Sarah’s brother, John McCree Pallister, had married William’s cousin, Barbara Hall (daughter of John Hall & Margaret Slack) in 1873.  William & Sarah emigrated to the US where William died. Son Charles married Dorothy Richardson Colledge in 1877 at Dalton-le-Dale.  After the death of his first wife in 1887 Charles married again in 1896.  His second wife was Mahalah Holden.

By 1881 Robert had retired & he & Barbara were living with daughter Margaret & her husband Joseph Fenwick Reay, a coal miner, & their family.  They were all living at 5 Villiers St, Murton Colliery.

Barbara died aged 76 & was buried March 3rd, 1891at Holy Trinity, Murton.

Widowed Robert was still living at 5 Villiers St, Murton Colliery in 1891, the home of daughter Margaret & family who was now married to William Bell, a coal miner, her first husband having died in 1887.

Robert died aged 80 & was buried on September 15th, 1893 at Holy Trinity, Murton.

Mary Woollett born July-September 1837 in Leicester

Elizabeth Woollett born Oct-December 1839 in Tynemouth, Northumberland; buried July 13th, 1897 at Holy Trinity, Pelton, Chester-le-Street

Charles Woollett born at Thornley, & christened August 15th, 1842 at Kelloe, Co Durham; buried May 1st, 1915 at Holy Trinity, Murton

William Woollett born at Thornley & christened May 31st, 1844 at Kelloe; died September 28th, 1893 at Glenroy, Jackson, Ohio, USA

Ann Woollett born Oct-December 1846 & christened September 23rd, 1847 at Dalton-le-Dale; died August 4th, 1916 at 4 The Avenue, Murton Colliery

Sarah Ann Woollett christened September 9th, 1849 at Dalton-le-Dale; buried November 4th, 1908 at Holy Trinity, Murton

Margaret Woollett born April-June 1853 at Murton Colliery; buried December 31st, 1917 at Holy Trinity, Murton

Thomas Woollett born Jan-March 1856 at Murton Colliery; buried April 6th, 1881 at Holy Trinity, Murton
