George Earnshaw [1.3]

George Earnshaw was the third son of Thomas Earnshaw and Elizabeth Crosby born at Dawdon Hall & christened February 6th, 1830 at St Andrew's, Dalton-le-Dale, Co. Durham.

In 1841 George was living with his parents at Dawdon Hall.

In 1851 he was a railway labourer living at home in William St, Dawdon.

He was still living at home in 1861 when he was a parish clerk.

In 1881 George was unmarried and living at Ocean Rd, Ryhope. He was a railway signalman.

By 1891 George (60) had returned to Dawdon & was living at 28 William St where he had grown up.  He was working as a labourer at the wagon works & was sharing the house with 2 widows – Mary Tasker & Esther Lauders, both living on their own means.

In 1901 George continued to live at 28 William St, Dawdon.  He was now a railway clerk and sharing the house was the Lumsden family from Scotland.

George died on January 22nd, 1911, aged 80, at his sister’s home, Wood Vue, Spennymoor.  Probate was granted at Durham to his sister Mary, wife of James Hall, & George’s effects were £477.9s. George was buried at Tudhoe Cemetery, Tudhoe alongside his sister & brother-in-law.
