Robert Earnshaw was the first child of Thomas Earnshaw & Mary Elizabeth Clark born November 29th, 1899 at 7 Regent Terr, Ryhope (Grangetown), & christened December 28th, 1899 at St Paul’s, Ryhope, Co Durham.
In 1901 Robert was living at Stockton Terrace, Ryhope with his mother & father who was a labourer at the paper mill.
Robert was still living at home, now 11 Leechmere Rd, Grangetown, with his parents & younger brother & sister in 1911.
Robert married Catherine Kirtley on March 27th, 1937 at St Aidan’s, Grangetown. Robert’s address was 7 Aysgarth Avenue, Grangetown & Catherine was living at 20 Stockton Terr, Grangetown. Robert was a clerk. Catherine was born Oct-December 1899 at Sunderland, the daughter of John Kirtley, a licensed victualler. Witnesses at the wedding were Thomas Earnshaw, William Kirtley & Margaret March.
The 1939 register shows Robert & Catherine living at 7 Aysgarth Avenue, Sunderland where Robert was a civil servant clerk in the Ministry of Labour.
Robert, of 29 Aysgarth avenue, died in August 17th 1960, aged 60, at the Royal Infirmary, Sunderland. Probate was granted May 1st, 1961 to widow Catherine & his effects were £796.13s.9d.
Catherine died on December 30th, 1963, aged 64, at 29 Aysgarth Avenue, Grangetown. Her will was administered by Margaret Robson, wife of James Taylor Robson, & her effects were £5,625.
