Eric Earnshaw was the sixth child of Frederick Earnshaw & Mary Emily Stainsby born January 5th, 1924 at 25 Leechmere Rd, Grangetown & christened January 29th, 1924 at St Aidan’s, Grangetown.
He attended Bede Grammar School, 1935-40 and left school to work at the naval armament depot, Sunderland.
The 1939 register shows Eric living with the Acres family at 2 Crosby Rd, Northallerton, N. Yorks. He was described as at school & may therefore have been evacuated.
Eric enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1942, before transferring to the Fleet Air Arm to be trained as a radio mechanic. He served until 1946 when demobbed in Australia he sailed back to the UK aboard HMS Patroller, an aircraft carrier. He then trained as a school teacher and qualified in 1949.
Eric married Elizabeth M Dixon on August 6th, 1949 in Northumberland South. Elizabeth (known as Betty) was a midwifery sister at the General Hospital, Sunderland.

Eric & Betty had 2 children, Peter & Elaine. Eric taught first as class teacher, then as head teacher in Nottingham, until a stroke brought retirement in 1985.
Eric died in April 2014 at Nottingham.
