Mary Earnshaw was the second child of George Earnshaw & Elizabeth Laing born at Seaham Park House in 1834, christened October 6th, 1834 at Seaham parish church, Co Durham.
In 1841 Mary was living at Houghton-le-Spring with her parents & brother & sister.
In 1851 Mary was living at home with her parents & sister at Seaham Mills.
Mary married Rowland Robinson, a 26 year old widower, on October 18th, 1858 at St Mary the Virgin, Seaham. They were both of Seaham Park Houses. Rowland, a joiner, was christened January 6th, 1833 at Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham, the son of Mary Ann & John Robinson, a joiner. Rowland’s first marriage was to Mary Ann Cordner in Jan-March 1853 at Sunderland.
In 1861 Mary & Rowland were living at Sunderland St, Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham with their 9 month old son, Rowland. Father Rowland was a joiner & house carpenter. Mary had given birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1859 who sadly died in infancy.
There is a death for Mary Robinson in Oct-December 1861 at Houghton-le-Spring.

Rowland married for the third time on December 19th, 1869 at St Cuthbert’s, Gateshead. His third wife was Joanna Clark who was born in c1843 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the daughter of Mary & Joseph Clark, an engineer. The marriage announcement in the Newcastle Courant of December 24th, 1869 states that Rowland worked for the timber department of Haggie Bros, Gateshead & that Joanna was the youngest daughter of Joseph Clark who was an engineer for the same firm.
In 1871 Rowland & Joanna were living at 9 Worcester St, Gateshead & Rowland was now described as an agent for a timber merchant. Son Rowland was still at home, & there was a new son Joseph, aged 3 months.
Rowland died February 2nd,1874, aged 42, at Chichester St, Gateshead. He was buried on February 4th, 1874 at Gateshead
In 1881 widowed Joanna had returned to her parents’ home at Abbots Rd, Gateshead. With her were children Rowland, now an engineer, Joseph, Mary (8) & Isabella (7).
In 1891 Joanna was living at 20 Ann St, Gateshead with son Joseph, a metal turner, & daughters Mary & Isabella, a dressmaker. Son Rowland had left home by this time & had married Jacobina McGee in Oct-December 1889. They were living at Gateshead & Rowland was a millwright. In 1901 Rowland & Jocobina had moved to Darlington where Rowland was an iron turner & engineer. He & his wife had 4 children – Robert, Norah, Sarah Agnes & Maud. Sadly little Maud died later in 1901.
By 1901 Joanna had moved to Leazes Crescent, Newcastle with her daughter Isabella who was still a dressmaker.
Joanna & daughter Isabella were still living at 26 Leazes Crescent in 1911 & Isabella was still a dressmaker. It was noted on the census that both of Joanna's other children had died. Rowland Earnshaw Robinson & his family were still living at 56 Surtees St, Darlington in 1911. Rowland was an iron turner & there were 4 children at home – Robert, Nora, Sarah & Laura (7). It was noted on the census that Rowland & Jacobina had had 7 children, but only 4 were still living.
Joanna died in Oct-December 1917 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
