William Fry was the third child of William Fry & Hannah Killick christened November 14th, 1788 at Frant, Sussex.
In 1788 William & his parents lived at Eridge & Eridge Mill, Sussex. The next year the family moved to East Grinstead.
William married Elizabeth Morphew on December 15th, 1819 at East Grinstead. Witnesses at the wedding were William Green & Harriet Morphew. Elizabeth was christened November 14th, 1794 at Frant, Sussex, the daughter of Mildred Cook & William Morphew.
William & Elizabeth were living at Laughton, Sussex when their first 2 children, William & Matilda, were born (1820-1822) but had moved to Wivelsfield by 1835 when son George was born.
In 1841 William & Elizabeth were living at Western Lane, Chailey, Sussex. William was a wheelwright as was son William (20). Son George (7) was also at home.
By 1851 William, Elizabeth & son George were living at Goodwins Farm, East Grinstead where William was a farmer. Living with them was a farm labourer William Butcher & a house servant Harriett Huggett.
They were still at Goodwins Farm in 1861 & William was still farming at the age of 72. He was assisted on his 96 acre farm by his son George. Living with them was William Fry aged 12, a grandson born at East Grinstead, the son of their eldest son, William. Grandson William was found in the 1871 census at Hyde Park Barracks where he was a trooper.
William died on April 13th, 1863 at Goodwins Farm. He was buried on April 17th, 1863 at East Grinstead. His will was proved at Lewes on October 7th, 1863 by sons William Fry of Battle, farmer, & George Fry of East Grinstead, farmer, & son-in-law William Lindfield of Chailey, farmer. William’s effects were under £450.
Elizabeth died in 1867 in Chailey & was buried on January 8th, 1867 at East Grinstead.
