Noah Freeth [fh.4.6.1.2.11.9]

Noah Freeth was the ninth child of Noah Freeth & Ann Robinson born April 22nd, 1884 at 51 Mount Pleasant St & christened May 9th, 1884 at St John's, West Bromwich, Staffs.

Noah & his parents & brothers & sisters were living at 51 Mount Pleasant St, West Bromwich in 1891 where his father was a labourer at the glass works.

By 1901 his father had died & Noah was still living at home with his widowed mother, 3 brothers & 2 sisters.  He was working as a pipewarmer at the iron works.

In April-June 1906 Noah married Winifred Shelton at West Bromwich.  Winifred was christened May 27th, 1887, the daughter of Mary & Thomas Shelton, a green grocer.

Noah & Winifred had 3 children by 1911 – Samuel (4), Winifred (1) & Lilian (5 months) - & they were living at 56 Sams Lane, West Bromwich.  Noah was now working as a glass blower’s gatherer.

Daughter Lilian died tragically in 1925.  Her clothes caught fire & in a panic ran outside which helped fan the flames.  She died of her injuries in hospital.  A report in the Birmingham Daily Post of November 21st stated that the accident occurred in the kitchen which was so small there was no room to pass between the table & the grate when all 7 children were at home.  The coroner stated that Noah was to be pitied rather than blamed for having to bring up his family in such distressing conditions.

Son Samuel married Mary Winifred Dicken in 1929 at West Bromwich. At the time of the 1939 register Samuel & his wife, Winifred, & family were living at 88 Walsall St, West Bromwich.  He was a plumber.

Daughter Winifred married Eric Asbury, a fireman on L M R S railway, in 1932 & by 1939 she & her family were living at 5/35 Clark St, Birmingham.

The 1939 register shows Noah & Winifred still living at 56 Sams Lane with sons Noah who was unemployed (& noted as having only 1 hand) & Joseph,  a foundry worker, & daughters Rose, packer seamless steel tubes & Evelyn, cardboard box maker.   Father Noah was described as a labourer seamless steel tube. Joseph was to marry Minnie Cartwright in 1941 in West Bromwich.

Son Samuel was in the 1939 register with his wife, Winifred, & family living at 88 Walsall St, West Bromwich.  He was a plumber.

Daughter Rose married Arthur Bennett in 1944 in Oldbury & daughter Evelyn married Jozef Dylinski in 1964 in West Bromwich.

Noah died in April-June 1962 at West Bromwich.

Winifred died in Jan-March 1969 at West Bromwich.
