Frances (Fanny) Freeth [fh.4.6.1.2.12.5]

Frances (Fanny) Freeth was the fifth child of George Henry Freeth & Margaret Riley born August 2nd, 1879 at Warrington.

Fanny was living with her widowed father & 4 older brothers at 253 Warwick Rd, Warrington at the time of the 1881 census.  Her mother had sadly just died.

Fanny’s father remarried in July 1881 & by 1891 she was living with her father, step-mother (Martha Gleave), 3 brothers & 4 children from her father’s second marriage.  Their address was 27 Oxford Lane, Warrington.

 (Frances) Fanny married (William) Henry Sherratt in July-September 1899 at Warrington.

 In 1901 they were living at 28 Harbold St, Warrington with a lodger, George Fernley.  William, born c1876 in Warrington, was a file cutter.

 By 1911 they had moved to Albert Terrace, Warrington & William was still a file cutter at a tool makers.  They now had 3 sons at home – Walter (8), William Henry (6) & Horace (3).  It was noted on the census that Fanny had had  5 children only 3 of whom were still alive.

William Henry died in April-June, 1912 at Warrington.

 Fanny married again in Jan-March 1914 at Warrington.  Her second husband was John E Ravenscroft.

In 1939 Fanny was living at 1 Albert Terrace, Warrington with daughter Gertrude Sherratt, an aluminium shearer, & son Joseph Edward Ravenscroft, an electric muffel maker.  Fanny was listed as married but no husband was with her.  Living next door was Fanny’s son William Henry Sherratt, an iron moulder, & his wife Marjorie.  Daughter Gertrude married James Leigh later in 1939.  Another of Fanny’s daughters, Elizabeth Ivy, married William Crawford in 1937 at Warrington & in 1939  they were living in Warrington & William was a sprayer at the enamel works & Elizabeth was a file cutter.  Sadly William was killed in 1946 while serving as a trooper with the Royal Tank Regiment.  Elizabeth married again in 1951, her second husband being Walter J Bond.

Son Bernard was living in Wales at the time of the 1939 register at Ceiriog Rd, Denbighshire & he was an apprentice painter – decorator. Son Walter & his wife Edith were living at Albert Terrace, Warrington in 1939 & he was an iron moulder.

Son Joseph married Vera Freeman in 1942 in Warrington.

Fanny died on December 17th, 1943 & was buried at Warrington Cemetery.
