Edwin Freeth [fh.4.6.1.4.4.4]

Edwin Freeth was the fourth child of William Freeth & Emma Standley April-June 1864 at Spon Lane, West Bromwich, Staffs.

In 1871 the family lived at Oldbury Rd, Smethwick & Edwin now had 3 sisters & 2 brothers.

By 1881 Edwin, his 3 brothers & 3 sisters & parents had moved to Cemetery Rd, Oldbury & Edwin was now a glass maker.

Edwin married Lucy Mason on April 9th, 1887 at St John the Evangelist, West Bromwich. Lucy was born Jan-March 1867 at Ryders Green, West Bromwich, the daughter of Lucy & George Mason, a moulder.

In 1891 Edwin & Lucy were living at 178 Sams Lane, West Bromwich & Edwin was still a glass maker. They had a daughter Georgina (3), & a domestic servant Lucy Worley (13).

By 1901 Edwin & Lucy had moved to 89 Barker St, Oldbury, West Bromwich where Edwin was still glass making. In addition to Georgina they now had 2 sons – William (9) & Bert (11 months).

Edwin & Lucy were still at 89 Barker St in 1911 & Edwin was described as a glass blower at the glass works.  Children at home were Georgina, a pin maker, William, a glass cutter, Bert, Kate (8), Rose (3) & Selina May (1).  It was noted on the census that they had had 10 children, only 6 of whom were still living.

Daughter Georgina married James A Hayes in 1912 & in 1939 they were living at 32 Mill Lane, Oldbury with their family & James was a process chemical worker.

Son William married Violet M Dodd in 1914 & by 1939 they had moved to Essex & were living at 65 Fairleigh Drive, Southend-on-Sea with their family.  William was still working as a glass cutter.

Daughter Kate married William Edward Fellows in 1925 & in 1939 they & their family were living at 89 Barker St, Oldbury.  William was an axle fitter in the motor trade.

Daughter Rose married Nando Hazlewood, a lorry driver, in 1929 & in 1939 they were living at 43 Saint Johns Rd, Oldbury with their 2 children.

Son Bert married Elizabeth H Allen in 1930 & by 1939 they were living at 140 Pencricket Lane, Oldbury with a son John E.  Bert was rolled plate glass maker & Elizabeth was a fish fryer.

Daughter Selina was to marry Francis Launchbury in 1931 at Birmingham. The 1939 register shows them living at 136 Princess Rd, Oldbury with a son Ronald.  Francis was a handyman fitter.

Lucy died, aged 58, in Oct-December 1924 at West Bromwich.

Edwin died, aged 74, in Jan-March 1938 at West Bromwich.
