Albert Ernest Freeth [fh.4.6.1.4.4.8]

Albert Ernest Freeth was the eighth child of William Freeth & Emma Standley born Oct-December 1873 at Smethwick, Staffs.

In 1881 Albert, his 3 brothers & 3 sisters & parents were living at Cemetery Rd, Oldbury.

In 1891 the family were living at 36 Trinity Rd, West Bromwich where Albert was a glass flatteners’s assistant.

Albert married Mary Howard at Holy Trinity, West Bromwich on August 28th, 1897.  Witnesses at the wedding were Albert’s brother John Leonard Freeth & Winifred Howard. Mary was born July 2nd, 1870 at West Bromwich, the daughter of Mary & William Howard, a painter.

In 1901 Albert & Mary were living with Albert’s widowed father, William, at 36 Trinity Rd, West Bromwich. Albert was now a sheet glass flattener. They had a 1 year old daughter, Gladys A.

Sadly Mary died, aged 35, in Oct-December 1906 at West Bromwich.

Albert remarried in April-June 1908 in Dudley.  His new wife was Alice Davis, born July 2nd 1878 at Tipton, Staffs, the daughter of Sarah & Thomas Davis, a boat loader.

In 1911 he & Alice were living at 28 Francis St, West Bromwich & Albert was still a glass flattener.  With them were William’s 2 children from his first marriage – Gladys Amy & Elsie May (7) & he & Alice had a 6 month old daughter, Rose Hannah.  Living with them was Albert’s 74 year old father, William, a pensioner (glass flattener).

Daughter Elsie May married John H E Rising in 1925. In 1939 they were living at 189 Chaplin Rd, Wembley, Middlesex where John was an ‘electrical instrument maker signal department’, and they had had a young son, Stanley.

Daughter Rose Hannah married William R Knowles in 1931.

Daughter Gladys Amy married Samuel Lambert in April-June 1933 & in 1939 they were living at 7 Francis St, West Bromwich & Samuel was a marine dealer.

Albert died in April-June 1934 at West Bromwich, aged 60, & was buried at All Saints, West Bromwich.

The 1939 register shows widowed Alice still living at 28 Francis St, West Bromwich with her widowed daughter Rose Hannah Knowles.  Rose was described as ‘railway station feeder printing’.

Alice died aged 78 in Jan-March 1957 at West Bromwich.
