Sarah Freeth [fh.]

Sarah Freeth was the ninth child of William Freeth & Sarah Gutteridge born February 2nd, 1848 & christened March 5th, 1848 at Smethwick, Staffs.

In 1851 Sarah was living at home at Roebuck Lane, Smethwick with her parents & siblings.

In 1871 Sarah was still at Roebuck Lane, both her parents having died.  Head of the household was her brother John, a glass flattener, & also there was sister Jane, a housemaid, nephew Leonard Freeth & niece Mary Blackman (both children of sister Hannah).  Sarah was working as a screw turner.

On December 22nd, 1872 Sarah married Joseph Jackson, a sawyer, at St Peter’s, Harborne.  Joseph was born c1845 at West Bromwich, the son of Catherine Baker & Joseph Jackson, a sawyer.

In 1881 Sarah & Joseph were living at 29 Feeder St, Smethwick & Joseph was a sawyer.

Sarah & Joseph had moved to 76 Temple St, West Bromwich by 1891 & Joseph continued to be a wood sawyer.  Visiting them was Mary Jackson (51), a dressmaker.

Joseph was living on his own in 1901 at 24A Bilhay St, West Bromwich with the same occupation.  Sadly Sarah was a patient at the County Lunatic Asylum, Burntwood, Staffs & listed as wife of a sawyer.

Sarah died sometime before the 1911 census when widowed Joseph was still living in Bilhay St at number 36.  He was still working as a wood sawyer in a timber yard.
