Albert was still at home in 1891with his 4 brothers & a sister at 289/287 High St, West Bromwich. He was now a grocer's assistant, presumably helping his father in his business.
Albert married Esther Jane Hodgetts in April-June 1899 at West Bromwich Register Office. Esther was born April-June 1874 at West Bromwich, the daughter of Eliza Downing & John Hodgetts, a grocer.
In 1901 Albert & Esther were living at 2 Edward St, West Bromwich & Albert was still a grocer's assistant.
Albert was still in the same occupation in 1911 & he & Esther continued to live at 2 Edward St. They now had 3 children – Edna E (9), James E (6) & John O (2 months). Living with them was Esther's widowed father, John Hodgetts aged 71, a retired grocer & her older brother William (45), also a grocer. They had a 15 year old servant Elsie Bates.
Albert died on March 13th, 1920 at 289 High St, West Bromwich, his parental home. Probate was granted at Lichfield on August 5th, 1920 to widow Esther. His effects amounted to £2,586.11s.
In April 1937 son John Owen married Freda Mary Owen in Weston-Super-Mare. John’s sister (Florence) Mary was a bridesmaid & his brother James was best man. A reception was held at the Addington Private Hotel, Weston-Super-Mare.
In 1938 daughter Florence Mary married Winston Thomas Henn in Weston-Super-Mare.
The 1939 register shows widowed Esther as the hotel proprietor of the Addington, Madeira Cove, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. With her helping in the hotel was daughter Edna & her husband, Charles W Butwell, a qualified butcher. Also at the hotel were son John, a commercial traveller, & his wife Freda M. Son James Ernest was living at 4 Clarence St, Royal Leamington Spa, Warks in 1939. He was a biscuit salesman.
Esther died, aged 71, on April 24th, 1945 at the Addington Madeira Cove, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. Probate was granted to son James Ernest, a commercial traveller, daughter Edna Lizzie Butwell (wife of Charles William Butwell) & Leonard Hedley Adcock, solicitor. Her effects were £5,108.0s.9d.
