Alice Edith Grove was the first child of Frederick Grove & Alice Remington born 1864 at Blackheath, & christened May15th, 1864 at St Bartholemew’s, Sydenham, Kent.
In 1871 she was living at Haddon New Rd, Croydon, with her parents & sisters Emily L & Edith H.
By 1881 the family had moved to Union Rd, Croydon & had grown to include 6 sisters & 1 brother.
On December 14th, 1887 Alice married William Edward Adams, a clerk, at Christ Church, Forest Hill, Lewisham, Kent. Alice’s father’s occupation was given as a whitesmith at the time of the wedding. Witnesses at the marriage were (illegible initial) Remington & Edith Harriett Grove, Alice’s sister. William was born July-Sept 1860 at Croydon, Surrey, the son of Esther & George Adams, an upholsterer.
In 1891 they were living at Kemble Rd, Forest Hill, Lewisham & had a 1 year old daughter Dora Emily & 2 boarders living with them. William was a merchant’s clerk.
By 1901 Alice & William were living at Woodhurst, Mansfield Rd, Croydon where William was described as a mercantile clerk. Daughter Dora was not at home at the time of the census.
In 1911 Alice & William were living at 33 Osmond Gardens, Wallington, Croydon & William was now a commercial clerk employed by the East Indian Merchants. Daughter Dora was at home & worked as a typist & short hand clerk. They had a general domestic servant, Florence Moss.
William died on July 28th, 1934 at Memorial Hospital, Carshalton. Administration of his will was granted on December 17th, 1934 to daughter Dora, now married to Sidney Francis Hood Stephens. His effects were £1,004.6s.8d.
Alice died on October 10th, 1934 at 33 Osmond Gardens, Wallington, Surrey. Administration of her will was granted on December 1st, 1934 to daughter Dora & her effects were £1,422.5s.10d.
