Charles Richard Remington Grove was the ninth child of Frederick Grove & Alice born July 23rd, 1882 & christened October 11th, 1882 at Croydon, Surrey.
In 1891 he was living with his mother and father, brother and sisters, at
Beulah Grove, Croydon.
Charles was still at home with his widowed mother at Beulah Grove in 1901.
Charles was still living at home at 20 Beulah Grove in 1911 with his widowed mother Alice. Charles was a house painter. Also living there was brother Frederick, a plumber & widowed sister Olive Drewett & her son Leonard Ernest. Also with them was Emily Grove, listed as an adopted daughter, who was working as a barmaid.
Charles married Amy Chapman in April-June 1911, the marriage being registered at Croydon. Amy was born February 18th, 1879.
At the time of the birth of their daughter Evelyn in 1912, Amy & Charles were living at 7 Cross Rd, Purley Vale, Croydon & Charles was a collector.
Charles died in Jan-March 1931 at West Ham, Essex.
The 1939 register shows widowed Amy living at 52 Amherst Rd, Bexhill, Sussex. With her was daughter Evelyn, described as seeking work, not previously employed. Also with them was an incapacitated widow, Elizabeth A Robbins, & 2 school children, Joyce & Betty Poynter.
Daughter Evelyn, of Flat 2 de la Warr Mews, Station Rd, Bexhill, was last seen alive on July 2nd, 1984 & her body was discovered on July 23rd, 1984. Her estate was not exceeding £40,000.
