Hannah Grove was the third child of William Grove & Hannah King christened January 9th, 1820 at St John the Baptist, Croydon, Surrey.
Hannah married John Sutton, a groom, on November 21st,1843 at the district church of St. George in the parish of Camberwell, Surrey. John was born May 21st, 1821 at Gaywood, Norfolk, the son of Esther & William Sutton, a victualler. Both were of full age and living at Picton Street at the time of the wedding. Witnesses were Mary Ann Bullock and W.Searle.
In 1851 Hannah & John were living at Mettingham, Kent & John was a coachman.
In 1861 they had moved to Windsor Cottage, Elizabeth St, St Mary Newington, Surrey & John was now a hackney carriage proprietor. They had a 28 year old lodger, Henry Slade.
Hannah & John were still in St Mary Newington at 4 Elizabeth St in 1871 & John had now retired. They had several lodgers including a conductor & a police constable.
In 1881 they were living at 46 Elizabeth St, & John was described as a retired cab master. They had 2 lodgers – a tailor & a butcher.
Hannah died April-June 1887, aged 67, at Newington.
John died on August 9th, 1887, aged 67, at 46 Elizabeth St., Walworth. His will was proved on September 29th, 1887 by undertaker Henry Poulter Wickes of Walworth. John’s effects were resworn in 1888 as £411.9s.6d.
