Mary Ann Horton was born at Walsall St, West Bromwich & christened October 15th, 1854 at Christ Church, West Bromwich, Staffs, the second child of William Horton & Sarah Jones.
In 1861 Mary Ann, her parents & 2 sisters were living at Mestey Croft, Wednesbury, Staffs.
Mary Ann was still living at home in 1871 with her parents & sisters at Moxley, Wednesbury. She was a tailoress.
Mary Ann married Thomas York on May 20th, 1872, at St Martin, Bradley, Bilston, Staffs. Witnesses at the wedding were Mary Ann's sister Jane Horton & her future husband, George Ward. Thomas was born c1852 at Iron Bridge, Shropshire, the son of Elizabeth & Thomas York, a collier.
In 1881 Mary Ann (Marrian in census) & Thomas were boarding with Mary Ann’s parents at Holyhead Rd, Wednesbury. Thomas was a forge labourer & Mary Ann was a dressmaker. Also with them was Mary’s sister Annie & her nephew William Ward (son of her sister Jane).
By 1891 Thomas & Mary Ann were living at 15 Park St, Wednesbury & Thomas was a labourer at the iron works. With them was Mary’s sister Annie, who was described as a general domestic servant.
All 3 were still together at the same address in 1901. Thomas was described as a ‘labourer, tube worker’ & Mary Ann was a tailoress working at home. It appears that Mary Ann & Thomas had no children.
