James Henry Horton was the first child of Samuel Horton & Ann Maria Oakley born April 10th 1875 at Musk Lane, Lower Gornall & christened April 28th, 1875 at St James, Lower Gornall, Sedgley, Staffs.
In 1881 James was living with his parents, brother & sister at 36 Musk Lane, Lower Gornall, Sedgley.
James was still living at home in 1891, now at 15 Barr St, Lower Gornall & he was now a general labourer. He had 4 brothers & 2 sisters.
James married Sarah Elizabeth Greenway on August 22nd, 1897 at St James, Lower Gornall, Sedgley. Sarah was born November 1st, 1877 & christened November 21st, 1877 at Lower Gornall, the daughter of Sarah, a fruiterer & William Greenway, a coal miner.
In 1901 James & Sarah were living at 32 Himley Rd, Lower Gornall & James was a coal miner (hewer) & Sarah was a brick maker.
By 1911 James & Sarah had moved to School Rd, Himley, Dudley in 1911 & James was now a ‘coal miner (truck loader on the surface)'. With them were 2 nieces, Gladdis (8) & Everline (6) Greenway.
James was a co-executor of his parents’ estates on their deaths in 1930 & 1931 & at this time he was described as a fruiterer.
The 1939 register shows James & Sarah living at School Road (general shop), Seisdon, Staffs & James was a general road labourer. With them was William Greenway (b. 1882 - Sarah's brother?) also a general road labourer.
James died on June 21st, 1945 at Himley Village, Brierley Hill, Staffs. Probate was granted to widow Sarah Elizabeth & his effects were £440.
Sarah died in April-June 1946 in Dudley, Staffs.
