John Hall was the first child of John Hall & Margaret Slack christened December 30th, 1838 at South Hetton, Co Durham.
In 1841 & 1851 John was living with his parents & brothers & sisters at South Hetton, Haswell, Co Durham, where his father was a coal miner.
John married Isabella Robson in April-June 1860, the marriage being registered at Houghton. Isabella was born c1837 at Seaton Burn, Northumberland.
In 1861 John & Isabella & their 8 month old daughter Jane were living at Easington Lane, Hetton-le-Hole, Co Durham where John was a coal miner. Lodging with them was John Hodgson, also a coal miner & his daughter Jane Ann (11).
There is a death for Isabella Hall in Jan-March 1864 recorded in Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham.

In 1881 John was living at Easington Lane, Hetton-le-Hole & was head of the household. His marital status was not given on the census & Annie could not be found at this time. Living with him was brother James, a coal miner like John, & their widowed mother Margaret.
At the time of the 1891 census John (52) was living on his own at Murton Lane, Hetton-le-Hole. He was described as a widower & still working as a miner.
There is a John Hall, aged 62, found in the 1901 census boarding with Henry Lindler, a retired coal miner at George St, Hetton-le-Hole. John’s occupation was given as a colliery labourer (underground) & his marital status was given as single.
In 1911 John was again boarding, this time with William & Elizabeth Turnbull at 194 High St, Easington Lane, Hetton-le-Hole. John was described as a widower & a colliery pensioner.
There is a death for John Hall, aged 74, in October 1913 registered at Houghton-le-Spring. He died in the Union Workhouse & was buried on October 21st at St Michael & All Angels, Houghton-le-Spring.
