Benjamin Taylor Lister was the first child of John Lister & Elizabeth Taylor christened May 18th, 1850 at Eston, Yorks.
In 1851 & 1861 Benjamin lived with his parents at Ormesby.
In 1871 Benjamin was living in Bradford, lodging at the home of William Marshall, a brick layer, at 22 Vicar Lane. He was working as a stonemason.
He married Ellen Deighton on February 16th, 1873, at St John’s, Middlesbrough. Benjamin gave his occupation as stonemason. Witnesses at the wedding were George Henry Fidler & Frances Fidler. Ellen was the daughter of John Deighton, a farmer, born April-June 1853 at Sockburn, nr Northallerton, Yorks. (There is a christening for Ellen Deighton daughter of Frances & John Deighton on September 18th, 1853 at Kirby Sigston, Northallerton, Yorks. In 1861 Ellen was with her father John & his wife Mary & 3 sisters living in Kirby Sigston.)
In 1881 Benjamin & Ellen (Helen in census) were living at 112 Portrack Lane, Stockton. Benjamin was a licensed victualler, & they had a daughter Frances Elizabeth (5) & a son Henry (2). Brother Robert Lister (22), a stone mason, & sister Mary Lister (14), a domestic servant, were living with them.
The following year Benjamin & Ellen & family emigrated to Australia on the Peterborough arriving there on December 27th, 1882. Benjamin gave his occupation on the Assisted Immigrant Passenger List as stonemason & named a cousin Thomas Taylor as already living in Waterloo, NSW. There had been another addition to the family, a little girl named Mary E, aged 1 year.
Sadly Benjamin died the next year on June 21st 1883 at Sydney, NSW & was buried at Rookwood Cemetery, NSW.
Daughter Frances Elizabeth was to marry Frederick W Evans in 1895 in Sydne & daughter Mary Ellen married William Henry Pearce in 1903 at Waterloo, NSW.
In 1898 Ellen remarried at Campsie, NSW, her second husband being Joseph Flatters.
Ellen died, aged 88, in October 1941 & was buried at Rookwood Cemetery, NSW.
