Eleanor Pallister was the second child of William Speed Pallister & Mary Bellwood born March 4th, 1866 at Seaham Harbour, Co Durham.
Eleanor (known as Ellen) & her family were living at Railway Row, Shotton in 1871 where her father was a coal miner.
In 1881 Ellen was working as a domestic servant for Sarah Bishop, a ships captain’s wife, & her family. They were at 20 Eloner St, Cullercoats, Tynemouth.
In Oct-December 1885 Ellen married Richard Martin Rennison at Tynemouth. Richard was born July-September 1863 in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, the son of Ann & Thomas Henry Rennison, a stone mason.
In 1891 Ellen & Richard were living at 4 Melton Terrace, Seaton Delaval & Richard was a mason. They had 2 children – Thomas H M (5) & Mary J (2).
They were still living at the same address in 1901 & Richard was now described as a mason at the colliery. As well as children Thomas & Mary they now had Richard (9), William (5), Stanley (3) & Harold (2).
Richard was initiated into the Astley Lodge of the Freemasons in 1908.
In 1911 the family were living at East View, Seaton Delaval & Richard was a master mason at the colliery. At home were Thomas, a piano tuner, Mary, Richard, an assistant schoolmaster, William, a colliery office boy, Stanley & Harold both at school, & new addition Gerald, aged 1. It was noted on the census that Ellen had had 9 children & only 7 were still alive.
Son Stanley, an engineer, emigrated to Canada in 1921 & lived in Calgary, Alberta.
Richard of East View, Seaton Delaval, died on June 21st, 1923 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Administration of his estate was granted to widow Ellen & his effects were £438.4s.4d.
The 1939 register shows Ellen living at 19 St Johns Terrace, Boldon, Co Durham with sons Richard & Gerald, both press photographers. Son Thomas & his wife Ada were also living in Boldon in 1939 & Thomas was a wayleave officer, electrical communications.
Ellen died on December 3rd, 1948 at 19 St Johns Terrace, East Boldon. Administration of her will was granted to son Gerald Oswald, press photographer & her estate was £826.18s.6d.
