John Pallister was the second child of William Pallister & Eleanor Manners born May 3rd, 1810 at Birtley, christened July 1st, 1810 at Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.
In 1841 John was farming at Wrekenton, Gateshead. He had a servant, Mary Brown (30), living with him.
In 1843 John was a member of the jury at an inquest held at the Half Moon, Wrekenton which investigated the circumstances of a dreadful explosion at the Stormont Colliery, Wrekenton which lead to the death of 27 men & boys.
John was still living at Wrekenton in 1851 & working as a farmer. Mary Brown was still his house servant & visiting was 28 year old Barbara Brown.
John continued to live at Wrekenton & in the 1861 census he was described as a landholder. Mary & Barbara Brown were again with him & both working as house servants.
In the 1871 census John’s address was given as Wrekenton Farm & he was an owner occupier of 27 acres. Mary & Barbara Brown were still working for him.
In 1881 John, now 70, was living at 32 Springwell Rd, Wrekenton & described as a farmer of 26 acres. He still had Mary & Barbara with him.
John had retired by the time of the 1891 census & was living at 61 High St, Gateshead. Barbara Brown was still working for him as a housekeeper & employed as general domestic servant was Mary Pallister (15). Mary was the daughter of John's nephew Robert Pallister (p.1.6.3.6.9).
John died on January 29th, 1892, aged 81, at Gateshead. His probate states that John was a farmer of Wrekenton & was granted on March 8th, 1892 to Rev William Bowker, clerk. His effects were £1405.10s.
