Joseph Pallister [p.1.6.3.12]

Joseph Pallister was the third child of William Pallister & Eleanor Manners born June 2nd, 1812 at Birtley, christened July 19th, 1812 at Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.

In his father’s will of 1834 Joseph inherited a plot of land on Gateshead Fell held on lease from the Lord of the Manor, a feather bed & bedding, a desk bed & a round table & a share of other furniture.

Joseph married Annabell Couper (Cooper?) on April 29th, 1837 at St Mary’s, Gateshead.  Witnesses at the wedding were Matthew Cooper & Ann Reay (her mark).  Annabella Cooper was born at Waggoners Row, Washington & christened April 22nd, 1821 at Washington, the daughter of  Jane Wood & Matthew Cooper.

The Newcastle Courant of April 24th, 1840 published an interesting notice concerning Joseph & Annabell which read ‘I, Joseph Pallister of Heworth High Lane will not be answerable for any debt or debts that my wife Annabell may contract after this notice.’

Shortly after this Joseph, aged just 28, died on August 3rd, 1840, at Wrekenton, Co Durham.  What happened to Annabell is unknown.
