Mary Pallister was the fourth child of William Pallister & Eleanor Manners born June 11th, 1814 at Eighton Banks, Gateshead & christened July 17th, 1814 at St Andrew, Lamesley, Co Durham.
Mary married George Miller on September 18th, 1836 at Chester-le-Street. George was born c1814 at Felling, Gateshead.
At the time of the birth of their first child, Eleanor in 1838 George was a pitman & they were living at Wrekenton, Co Durham.
By 1841 George & Mary had moved to the High St, Gateshead with daughter Eleanor & George had become a grocer.
In 1851 Mary & George were living at Collingwood Terrace, Gateshead where George continued to be a grocer. They now had 3 children, Eleanor (12), William J (9) & John G (7). Living with them was a niece Ellenor Walker (17) who was a servant.
By 1861 the family had moved to Hill St, Gateshead & George was now described as a grocer & provision dealer. All 3 children were at home – William was assisting in his father's grocery business & John was a clerk at the railway.
In 1871 George & Mary were still at Hill St (number 3), & Eleanor & William were still at home. George was still a grocer.
Mary died aged 57 & was buried at St Mary’s, Heworth, Gateshead on April 4th, 1872.
By 1881 Mary had died & widowed George was now a retired grocer living at 16 Alexander Rd, Gateshead. Daughter Ellen (Eleanor) was still with him & also boarding with them was George G Smith (30), a pneumatic engineer.
George & daughter Eleanor, now described as his housekeeper were living at 9 Raby St, Gateshead in 1891. George Smith was still boarding with them.
In 1901 George, aged 86, & daughter Eleanor were living at 9 Exeter St, Gateshead. They still had George Smith as a boarder.
Daughter Eleanor died on May 31st, 1903 at 20 Ord Place, Gateshead. Administration of her estate was granted to her father George, a retired provision dealer.
George died, aged 91, in April-June 1905, his death being registered at Gateshead.
