Hannah Pallister [p.1.6.3.4]

Hannah Pallister was the fourthchild of William Pallister & Isabella Blackburn born at Old Stables, Washington & christened February 20th, 1791 at Washington, Co. Durham.

Hannah married John Welsh on November 16th, 1807 at Chester-le-Street. Hannah signed the register & John made his mark. Witnesses at the wedding were Michael Horn, James Frazer & William Pybus (church warden). John Welsh was christened April 19th, 1786 at Washington, the son of Mary & John Welsh.

John was a pitman & he & Hannah were living at Chartershaugh & Fatfield (both villages adjacent to Chester-le-Street) in their early married life. By 1814 the family had moved north to Northumberland & lived for some time at Killingworth Colliery, near Longbenton where 4 of their children were christened.

Hannah died in 1823 at Wrekenton & was buried October 6th, 1823 at Holy Trinity, Washington, Co Durham.

Daughter Isabella married Benjamin Pendlington in 1828 at Longbenton but sadly died 5 years later, aged 23.

John remarried on July 31st, 1825 at St Bartholemews, Longbenton. His second wife was Margaret Broad. Margaret was christened December 9th, 1781 at St Mary the Virgin, Ovingham, Northumberland, daughter of Charles & Ann Braid (Broad?) of Wylam.

In 1841 John & Margaret were living in Willington Square, Willington, Northumberland & John was a coal miner. With them was John's son, Thomas, also a coal miner.

Son William & his 2 children Hannah & Jane were living at Biggs Main, Walker, Longbenton. William was a coal miner & had married Isabella Pickering on May 10th, 1835 at Longbenton. Isabella was not with William on the census & it is thought she died in 1840. William’s younger sister Mary was living with him, presumably helping to look after the children, & was described as a female servant.

Margaret, aged 68, died on March 30th, 1851 at Willington Square, Northumberland, the cause of death being bronchitis & apoplexy.

In 1851 widowed John was living at New Row, Willington, Northumberland & was described as a coal miner. With him was granddaughter Hannah Welsh, daughter of son William & 5 year old granddaughter Hannah Pallister (the daughter of William Pallister [p.1.6.3.1.2] & Mary Ann Welch, John's daughter).

By 1861 John was living on his own at Huntley’s Houses, Shields Rd, Willington. He was now retired.

John died in 1862 & was buried on December 25th at Holy Trinity, Usworth, Co. Durham. (His daughter Mary Ann & her husband William Pallister were in Usworth at tht time.)
