Robert Blagburn Pallister was the the third child of William Pallister & Eleanor Forster born August 12th, 1818 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne & christened July 2nd, 1822 at All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. (Robert was christened at the same time as his younger brother William.) Robert's second given name may have been after his paternal grandmother Isabella Blackburn.
Robert married Isabella White on August 15th, 1840 at Christ Church, Tynemouth. Isabella was born c1818 at North Shields, Northumberland, the daughter of Robert White.
In 1841 Robert & Isabella were living at Wylam, Ovingham, Northumberland & Robert was an engineer.
By 1851 Robert & Isabella had moved to Bristol & were living at 25 Henry St in the district of St Philip & Jacob. Robert was again listed as an engineer.
Robert's job necessitated a lot of travelling around the UK, since in 1861 he & Isabella were living at 8 Andrew Square, Greenock East, Renfrewshire, Scotland. They were lodging at this address & Robert was described as an enginesmith.
At the time of the 1871 census Robert & Isabella were found with Robert's 79 year old father William Pallister & his step-mother Hannah at a cottage in Bath St, Westoe, South Shields, Co Durham. Robert was described as an unemployed master mariner.
In 1881 Robert & Isabella with a ‘son' William, aged 8, were living at 44 Brauel Terrace, Elswick, Newcastle. William was now a retired engineer. The description ‘son' seems unlikely for little William since Isabella would have been in her mid-50s at the time of his birth. William's exact birth record has not been found.
Isabella died, aged 70, in Jan-March 1888 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
In 1891 widowed Robert was still living at the same address & described as a retired fitter. He had a domestic house keeper, Millicent Wilson (41).
Robert Blagburn Pallister died on October 4th,1891, aged 73, at 44 Brunel Terrace, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. His will was proved on October 23rd, 1891 by William Shiref Findley of 71 Gloucester St, Newcastle, a bank agent & registrar of births & deaths, & nephew John Harrison of 34 Bayley St, Newcastle, a foreman joiner. His personal estate was £114.8s.6d.
