Joseph Pallister [p.1.6.3.6.7.1]

Joseph Pallister was the first child of Catherine Pallister born January 5th, 1862 at Wrekenton, Gateshead.

Joseph & his mother were living with his grandparents, Peter & Catherine Pallister, in 1871. They were at Boundary House, Wrekenton, Gateshead.

Joseph's mother Catherine married Richard Blythman, a locomotive fitter, in 1880 & in the 1881 census Joseph & his younger brother William were with their mother & stepfather at Eighton Banks, Lamesley, Co Durham. They were listed with surname Blythman.

Joseph married Annie Nicholl on June 12th, 1886, at Eighton Banks, Chester-le-Street. Annie was born in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland in 1859, the daughter of John Nicholl.

In 1891 Joseph & Annie were living at Galloping Green, Lamesley, Co Durham & Joseph was a blacksmith. They had a 2 year old son Richard J. They were living next door his mother Catherine & stepfather Richard Blythman & brother William.

Joseph & Annie were living at Coach Rd, Lamesley in 1901 & Joseph was now described as a colliery blacksmith. In addition to son Richard they had another son, John, aged 9. Living with them was Annie's younger brother William Nichol (34), a fitter's labourer. The family was again living next door to Joseph's mother & stepfather.

By 1911 Joseph & Annie had moved to Eighton Villas, Pasture Field, Eighton Banks, Lamesley & Joseph continued to be a blacksmith. Both sons were still at home – Richard was a waggonwright & John was an engineer's fitter.

Joseph died aged 50, & was buried on April 21st, 1912 at St Thomas, Eighton Banks.

Son John married Hilda Wesley in Jan-March 1921 at Gateshead. 

The 1939 register shows son John William & his wife Hilda with their daughter Irene living at  28 Causeway, Gateshead.   John was an electrician’s labourer (power steam) & Irene worked as an accountant’s clerk.  Head of the household was John’s brother, Richard, who was unmarried & still working as a waggon wright at the colliery.

p.1.6.3.6.7.1.1 Richard James Pallister born June 2nd,1888 at Lamesley, Co Durham; died May 6th, 1963 at Sheriff Hill Infectious Diseases Hospital, Gateshead

p.1.6.3.6.7.1.2 John William Pallister born December 30th, 1891 at Lamesley, Co Durham; died July-September 1957 in North West Durham
