William Pallister [p.1.6.3.6.7.2]

We are grateful to Nick Reay great grandson of William Pallister for information on William & his family

William Pallister was the second child of Catherine Pallister born April 25th, 1872 at Wrekenton & christened June 5th, 1872 at St Edmund's, Gateshead.

William's mother Catherine married Richard Blythman, a locomotive fitter, in 1880 & in the 1881 census William & his older brother Joseph were with their mother & stepfather at Eighton Banks, Lamesley, Co Durham. They were listed with surname Blythman.

In 1891William was still at home, now Galloping Green, Eighton Banks, Lamesley & he was now a clerk at the school board office.

William married Florence Mounsey in July 18th, 1900 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Florence was born June 4th, 1876 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the daughter of Sarah Scott & Joseph Mounsey, a joiner & advertising agent.

In 1901 William & Florence were living at 129 Innship Terrace, Gateshead & William was described as a clerk & accountant. Living with them was Florence's younger sister, Sarah E Mounsey (16).

By 1911 William & Florence had moved to 19 Lawe Cottages, South Shields, Co Durham & William was now a collector & assessor of income tax. They had 4 children – Catherine, known as Kitty (9), Norman Leonard (8), Evelyn (6) & Ronald (2). Living with them was William's widowed stepfather, Richard Blythman (74) who was a retired locomotive fitter.

On the death of Richard Blythman in 1919, William was granted probate of his step-father's estate in 1920.

Daughter Catherine married George E Reay in Jan-March 1927 at Scarbrough & the 1939 register shows them living at Clarence House, Bywell Rd, Boldon, Co Durham & George was a rating & valuation officer.  With them was son George E D who had been born on October 2nd, 1927.

Son Norman married Mary Ramsey in July-September 1935 at South Shields.  The 1939 register shows Norman & Mary & their young son Ian living at 89 Cross gates Rd, Leeds.  Norman was described as a stock supervisor traveller for Hoover Ltd.

The 1939 register shows William & Florence living at 20 Pollard St, South Shields & William was now a retired accounts audit clerk.  Daughter Evelyn was still living at home & was working as a shop assistant at a tobacconists.

Son Ronald married Edith Donkin in Jan-March 1939 at South Shields.  The 1939 register shows Ronald & Edith living at 54 Norton Park Rd, Sheffield & Ronald was a furniture salesman.

Florence died in 1949 at South Shields.

William died in 1955 at South Shields.

p.1.6.3.6.7.2.2 Norman Leonard Pallister born August 12th, 1902 at South Shields, Co Durham; died May 1987 at Leeds

p.1.6.3.6.7.2.3 Evelyn Pallister born July 7th, & christened August 21st, 1904 at St Michael’s, South Westoe, South Shields; died October 2001 at South Shields

p.1.6.3.6.7.2.4 Ronald Pallister born March 21st, 1909 at South Shields; died 1983 in Las Palmas, Spain
