Dorothy Pallister [p.1.6.5.3.7.13]

Dorothy Pallister was the first child of Thomas Pallister & Ann Walton Featherstonhaugh born July 19th, 1887 at Lanchester.  Ann, known as Annie, was Thomas’ third wife & Dorothy was his 13th child.

In 1901 Dorothy & her parents were living at Victoria St, Lanchester where her father was a butcher. Dorothy’s sister Lydia was at home & her half-brother Thomas.

By 1911 Dorothy’s father had died & she was living with her mother at 6 West View, Durham Rd, Lanchester in 1911, both described as doing domestic duties.

In April-June 1911 Dorothy, known as Dot, married George Thompson in Lanchester.  George was born January 4th, 1887 at Greencroft, Lanchester, the son of Mary Milburn & Richard Thompson, farmer, auctioneer & cattle dealer of Sunniside.  George was working of his father’s farm at the time of the 1911 census.  Richard Thompson later married Dot’s sister, Lydia, after the death of his first wife.

The 1939 register shows Dot & George living at Victoria Terrace, Lanchester with 2 children.  George was a threshing machine engine driver.  Son Richard was helping his grandfather, Richard Thompson, at Newhouses Farm, Lanchester in 1939, where he was head horseman.
