Isabella Pallister was the eighth child of Thomas Pallister & Isabella Nasbitt, born March 3rd, 1868 at Lanchester, Co Durham.
Isabella was living at home at Ornsby Hill, Lanchester in 1871 & she now had 7 sisters & 3 brothers.
Isabella’s mother died in 1880 & in 1891 Isabella was living with her father Thomas, a butcher, & his third wife Annie at Front St, Lanchester.
Isabella married Thomas Holt on June 12th, 1894 at Lanchester. Thomas was born May 9th, 1865 in Tow Law, Co Durham, the son of Margaret & George Holt, a master shifter at the colliery.
In 1901 Isabella & Thomas were living at Chester Moor, Chester-le-Street & Thomas was a colliery engineman. They had 3 children by this time – Margaret A (4), Eva (2) & Ada M (1). Also living with them was Minnie Raine (13), the daughter of Isabella’s sister Margaret who had died in 1888 soon after having given birth to Minnie.
Isabella & Thomas were still living at Chester Moor in 1911 & Thomas was now described as a colliery winding engineman above ground. Children at home were Margaret Annie, an apprentice dressmaker, Eva Isabella, Ada Mildred & George Thomas (6). Niece Minnie Raine was still living with them.
Daughter Eva married Dr John Charlton Hall, resident medical officer of Gateshead Dispensary, on June 6th, 1932 at Chester-le-Street Wesleyan Church.
Son George married Nora Ingram, a French teacher, on April 10th, 1937 at Castle Eden, Co Durham & in 1939 they were living at 3 Arcadia Estate, Chester-le-Street with their family. George was a stockbroker’s managing clerk.
The 1939 register shows Isabella & Thomas living at 8 Lumley Terrace, Chester-le-Street & Thomas was now a retired colliery engineman. With them was daughter Eva, now Eva Hall, & Isabella’s sister Frances, all doing domestic duties.
Isabella died on November 12th, 1945 at 8 Lumley Terrace, Chester-le-Street.
Thomas died on May 18th, 1951 at 8 Lumley Terrace, Chester-le-Street.
