Jane Pallister [p.1.6.8.3]

Jane Pallister was the third child of Thomas Pallister & Mary Blackburn born at Havannah & christened July 31st, 1814 at Washington, Co Durham.

On November 8th, 1834 Jane married John Winn at Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.  John was born c1812 at Birtley, Co Durham.

In 1841 Jane & John were living at Club Row, Hetton-le-Hole, Co Durham where John was a coal miner.  They had 2 children by this time – Mary (4) & Thomas (2).

By 1851 they had moved to Birtley where John continued to work as a coal miner.  Children at home were Mary Jane, a domestic servant, Thomas, a coal miner at the age of 12, Isabella (9), Hannah (6) Henry (4) & John (1).

Son Thomas married Hannah Parker in 1860 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Jane & John had moved to Perkinsville, Pelton by 1861 & living at home were Isabella, Hannah, Henry, a coal miner aged 13, & John William (9).  John was still working as a coal miner.

In 1871 the family were living at B. Pitt, Ouston, Co Durham & John was now a deputy overman at the colliery.  Son John William was still at home & was a coal miner.  Also living with them was grand daughter, Dinah Major (7), the child of Jane & John’s daughter Mary Jane & William Major.  Living next door was Jane’s nephew Thomas Hindmarsh, the son of her sister Hannah & Robert Hindmarsh.

Son Henry married Hannah Chapman on January 29th, 1874 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. (Henry & Hannah's son Henry was tragically killed in December 1906 in an explosion at Urpeth colliery where he was working as a putter. He was aged just 21.)

John died on May 25th, 1879 at Birtley.  His will was proved on September 23rd, 1879 by widow Jane & his personal estate was under £200.

Widowed Jane, an annuitant, was living at Thomas St, Birtley in 1881 & with her was grand daughter Dinah Major, a dressmaker.

Grand daughter Dinah was still living with Jane in 1891 at Mount Pleasant, Birtley & also with them was a great grandson, Henry Bolam (6).  (Dinah was to marry Isaac Richardson in 1901 in Chester-le-Street.)

Jane died in April-June 1893 aged 78, her death being registered at Chester-le-Street.

p.1.6.8.3.5  Henry Winn born at Birtley & christened May 30th, 1847 at Chester-le-Street; died January 25th, 1907 & buried January 1907 at Pelton Cemetery
p.1.6.8.3.6  John Winn born Jan-March 1850 at Chester-le-Street; died April-June 1851 at Chester-le-Street
p.1.6.8.3.7  John William Winn born Jan-March 1852 at Chester-le-Street; died Jan-March 1872 at Chester-le-Street
