Joseph Stephenson was the sixth child of Thomas Stephenson & Mary Cooke christened December 12th, 1784 at Kildale, Yorks.
At the time of the 1851 census Joseph was a widower & was working as a farm labourer at Aislaby with his sister-in-law Jane Stephenson who was the widow of George Stephenson.
